02/12/09 – Relocation, Relocation, Relocation - Turtles on the move!
Our resident Map Turtles have moved into their new home this month, just in time for Christmas!
The 6 resident Map Turtles were previously homed within their own exhibit and have been growing steadily for quite some time. Now that they are big enough, we have moved them into the new Community display within our EvoZone!
Ranging in size from 15 to 20cm, and originally found within swamps & rivers of North America & Southern Canada, these turtles will grow to a maximum size of approx. 25cm on a diet of small fish, insects & vegetation. These fun and active turtles have proven to be extremely popular with both visitors and team members.
Now, relocated to our new Community display, they join our Silver Dollars within our themed exhibit with special basking lamps and lights, and an internal air temperature of 30c! – doesn’t that make you jealous, just as we are starting our winter weather?
Our Map Turtles can be seen everyday from 10am – so why not come along and say “Hi”

21/11/09 - Lucky the Limbless Lobster!
The Weston super Mare SeaQuarium has welcomed its newest resident - “Lucky the Lobster!”
Caught by accident by local fisherman within the Bristol Channel, the European Blue Lobster was found to be missing one of his claws! Nobody knows how he lost his limb, it may have been whilst defending his territory, who knows!
Donated to the SeaQuarium by the fisherman, ‘Lucky’ who is only a young lobster, measuring approx. 8 inches in length is being monitored and observed by our trained aquarists who care for all of our resident creatures before being introduced into one of our larger exhibits.
Lucky, who is currently on display within our Fish Hospital can be seen by all of our visitors. Our aquarists have been feeding him on a regular basis and he’s made quite a home for himself within this temporary exhibit! You never know, you might be able to see them feeding him when you next visit!
Don’t miss this chance to see Lucky the Lobster before he is introduced into our larger Ray Zone exhibit.
‘Lucky’ can be seen everyday from 10am until 4pm within the SeaQuarium, so why not come along and see how he’s doing?
